Rome is a beautiful city steeped in history, combining the ancient remains of a 2000-year past with the excitement of a modern European capital. The Vatican City (Papal State), including St Peter's and the Sistine Chapel, is just a ten-minute walk from Hotel de Russie.
Among other famous Rome attractions that are only minutes away from the hotel is the Pantheon on Via del Seminario, built by the architect Emperor Hadrian 2000 years ago, with its huge, domed roof housing the tomb of Raphael. The Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, a Gothic, 13th-century church in Centro Storico is also close by and houses the tombs of wealthy Romans and priceless frescoes. The Spanish Steps, Pizza di Spagna and exclusive shops in Via Condotti are also within easy walking distance of Hotel de Russie.
The Campidoglio is the city hall, located on Capitoline Hill. One of Rome's most elegant squares, it was designed by Michaelangelo and features some of the city's primary classical sculpture and museums. The best overivew of the Roman Forum can be seen from behind the Palazzo Senatorio.
